Sunshine, grain & companionship – simple pleasures for Cricket and Quilo.
Quilo – God of the North Wind – named in honour of his “surprise” arrival on a -26 C. January morning – born on the snow and ice! That day we decided it was time to quit making fun of all those people “who didn’t even know our mare was pregnant”!
Despite the odds – as you can see Quilo has thrived. When it came time to wean Quilo, Cricket our petite white Arabian was chosen to be his companion while he and his Mother ( Lassie ) adjusted to the separation, something very relatable in this time of physical distancing. It went much better than anticipated, Cricket was thrilled, finally – after 20 years - someone her size! They became inseparable, and even when reintroduced into the larger herd, Cricket was the small but mighty protector of Quilo – what she lacked in size and weight was made up in attitude! Her patience with the young rambunctious colt was respected by horse and human alike.
Now, more than a year later they are still the best of buddies, willing to share those precious grains, basking in the sun.
Hoping this finds everyone doing well. Your feedback from last week was much appreciated. Thank you for sharing your comments, stories, pictures and thoughts! Feel free to share our e-mail with others.
